Your stepper motor to your speedometer gauge has failed and needs to be replaced. I personally have never received any letter advising of existing problem. I contacted my local gm dealer to see if my vehicle could be repaired under this since it originally malfunctioned when there was less than 70,000 miles on the vehicle. We have owned this vehicle for 2 years this month, and the problem started just after bringing it home. While driving at speeds of 70 mph, he was received a warning from a local police officer. Only remove the ones on the white area of the board, which is the area behind the guages. The dealer stated that the electronic control module needed to be reprogrammed.
The current mileage was approximately 150,000. To remove the needles, the best tool is a simple dinner fork. Now at this point, you should have all your polarity marked and the stock bulbs removed. It happened on my wife's envoy and a code scan actually caught it becuase it was throwing interference for a few other lights on the dash and poped a code. When you're done doing the led swap, idle again for another 20 mins and put the needles back on where they were. You will want to take off the clear guage lense first. Now you have to lift out the clear light diffuser that is laying inside the cluster.
Was not notified of Recall even though I had the truck in the dealer for Electrical problem of back tail light time after time. So my complaint is : is there anything we can do? It will stay at 0 mph or 30 mph then after turning off the vehicle a few times it would reset. Speed increased, speedometer reading did not increase, but kept getting lower. In Aug of 2007 my speedometer started acting up. Now it is not reading my speed correctly at all. There was not warning that it was going to fail. We feel this is a manufacturer defect in material and workmanship, and not an expense to repair that should be wholly the responsibility of loyal vehicle owners.
For verified failures between 70,001 miles 110,001 km and 80,000 miles 130,000 km on U. Mine has issues as well, my oil pressure has been pegged out for sometime, goes down when key is off, and on occassion, when truck is started, none of them work until I shut the truck off and restart it. While driving approximately 55-60 mph he noticed that the speedometer was no longer working and displayed zero. The gauges would drop while the vehicle was started. Well we been into this for quite awhile now and finally the Tach, gas, oil, batt, water, speed, heater light one side only passenger side just fkn quit. I also own a 2001 Chevy Tahao same motor 5.
I just bought the truck in June and it was fine then on night on the way home from work it started. The cluster will be replaced for free for your truck if it has less then 70k miles. The officer advised him that he was actually traveling 90 mph. Now once you get the cluster all back together, go plug it in your truck and be amazed at how frikkin awesome your cluster now looks. At this point, you need to go plug the cluster back into your truck and use a meter to find out which solder terminals for each bulb are positive and negative.
Then at lights it starts loading up again. The place I bought the truck from said I had a bad dash cluster so the replaced it now the warranty is out and I'm still have trouble. It is not like I did something to make my gauges stop working. I need balls of steel to take the cluster apart. You fix the things on your vehicle as you can afford to or if it makes the vehicle totally inoperable.
The oil gauge does not move at all and the dial becomes stuck all the way at the bottom. I've now had two estimates to repair the speedometer. Funny how you know the average mileage it will fail and what the limit you allow. The vehicle was not repaired. On rare occasions the speedometer will register a lesser speed for a short period of time but the normal speed shown is 120 mph or higher.
They should order one for you, takes 1-2 days and replace it for you at no charge. I have had sporadic malfunctioning in the temperature gauge for several months but I could live with that. Then after a few months of that going on the speedometer does not work at all. This has been a reoccurring problem over the last 6 months. Hell it aint got a choke! When it does work it is usually off by a good bit high and low. This is what the stock bulbs look like. I asked it to be repaired along with the fuel system servicing.
