In many ways it is adepressing movie but it's also heart-warming, touching, feel-good andtons of fun. I have to admit though when I heard that they were coming out with one that had volleyball as the premise, I was curious to see it, being a volleyball player myself. He is not someone I sympathize with and he certainly isn'tfunny, although it is hilarious when his truck falls apart and he can'tstop it and accidentally drives it into a river. Air Bud is the proud father of five adorable puppies - the hip-hopping B-Dawg, lovely Rosebud, mellow Buddha, dirt-loving Mudbud, and the big fella Budderball - with an unbelievable secret: They can talk! The movie is focused more on Josh and Buddy, who are the most likablecharacters of the movie.
I enjoyed this film enough, and I'll gladly watch itagain. The direction is sloppy, the actors overact and the result is cheese on astick, but Air Bud still manages to entertain adults and children throughoutthe perfectly short running time. Coach Joe isn't especially sympathetic because he is very impatient andtemperamental, but he goes too far when he throws basketballs at Josh'speculiar friend Tom with aggressiveness. You'll cry, you'll laugh and you'll be weirdly uplifted, but don't expect tobe absolutely spellbound with Air Bud. The main flaw arises from acombination of too many characters, too many plot threads and notenough time to take care of them all. However, while practicing, he meets Buddy, a runaway golden retriever, who surprises him with his ability to score baskets.
